VARIETY

Bourbon

Nowadays, coffee trees of a Bourbon variety are extremely popular among coffee farmers. Not only are they much more productive, but, most importantly, coffee made from these coffee beans is sweeter.

PROCESS

Washed

During the wet processing coffee bean is separated from the berry using water. As a result, coffee has a very clean taste, it reveals notes of fruits and berries. It is easier to determine predominant tasting notes when processing this way.

REGION

Kivu

Located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the region of Lake Kivu is renowned not only for its astounding beauty, but also for its unique soil, tropical heat and humidity. Coffee plantations cover the area near Mount Nyiragongo, a powerful volcano, where nutrient-rich soil, which is perfect for coffee farming, is found.

FARM

Small farmers

In the last decade of the 20th century, due to repeated volcanic eruptions and a brutal civil war, most coffee farms were destroyed almost completely. Nowadays, these farms are being rebuilt — this is a cause of enormous joy both for the locals, who can work in the farms and earn a decent living, and coffee lovers, who can once again enjoy the unique taste of the region’s coffee.

ALTITUDE

1500 m

The higher the coffee trees grow, the more complex, deeper and more interesting flavour you get.

ROAST PROFILE

Dark

A darker roast level is best for revealing and accentuating the flavour palette of the “Dr Congo Kivu” coffee.

Filter coffee maker

This coffee preparation method is perfect for those who enjoy longer coffee breaks and tea-like consistency of their coffee. Prepared in a filter coffee maker, the single-origin “DR Congo Kivu” coffee reveals the entire palette of aromas and tastes hidden inside it. Important: always use freshly ground coffee beans when preparing coffee!

Semi-automatic coffee machine

To the true lovers of espresso, we recommend preparing this coffee in a semi-automatic coffee machine. Prepared in this way, the “DR Congo Kivu” coffee will be particularly thick, while the sweetness of marzipan candies and the subtle sourness of lemon rind will be felt in its taste.

Automatic coffee machine

Because of its darker roast, the single-origin “DR Congo Kivu” coffee is perfect for automatic coffee machines, especially when they are used to prepare milk-based drinks. The predominant tasting notes — marzipan, dried dates and dark chocolate — go well with the natural sweetness of milk.
